We need a new NAME!

News and Information December 2nd, 2014 By Amy Saidman

SpeakeasyDC needs a new name and we want your input! Although the initial push to change our name is coming from a dispute over the trademark, we are seizing the moment and excited about using this as an opportunity to fully communicate how we have grown and changed since we first adopted that name in 1997.

We have gone from simply hosting one open mic show a month for a couple of hundred people a year to annually producing 30 shows for 11,000 people, training and coaching more than 300 performers, and teaching the art of storytelling to executives, community leaders, academics, activists, international development professionals, and government employees. We have ongoing partnerships with many of the most esteemed cultural institutions in the city, such as Sixth & I, Atlas Performing Arts Center, DC Shorts, as well as recognition from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Washington Post. It's a great opportunity to come up with a name and brand that will reflect the depth and breadth of who we are, what we do, and how we serve our community.

We want to hear from you! Please share your ideas for a new name through the online form below. We will also be taking ideas at the November 9th 2nd Tuesday Show. Stay tuned as this process takes shape. Be sure to subscribe to our emails here
